I'm so stoked to run the Boston Marathon for the 3rd time and even more excited to be partnered with Emily and Sara Crowley as my Patient Partners once again. Emily and Sara each overcame life-threatening ailments, having been born 12 weeks premature at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston at a combined weight of just under 5 pounds. Since the newborn intensive care unit at the hospital was full, the twins were immediately transferred to Children's Hospital Boston's neo natal intensive care unit. They were there for three months. Now, 8 years later, they are happy and healthy and I am honored to call the entire Crowley family my friend.
I'm fundraising for this event because I believe so strongly in all the good things Boston Children's Hospital does for kids like Emily and Sara. Its patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need. Its researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives. It welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care-more than any other hospital in Massachusetts. It makes a point of reaching out to local communities to help low-income and at-risk kids. And it really gets the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses.
